Our History
Austin Journey Church began as a dream, and is now becoming a reality.
From Pastor Brian: The dream to plant a new kind of church that will radically impact the culture around us while making a lasting impact with peoples lives has been a desire of mine for many years. Like all visions it starts with aproblem and then becomes a dream. For me I believe the problem I see in the"church" was the ongoing lack of new churches effectively reaching the next generation. I began to see a disconnect between the current Christian community and the non-believers around us. I would see a Christian culture that was talking about spiritual seekers as people out there who need God. Yet I did not see a lot of solid discipleship that was helping the people in the church to live out lives as missionaries reaching their culture around us. From this problem God began to birth in my wife and I the desire to become those kind of people who live and breath discipleship, to live out the great commandment and great commission and to plant a church that does the same. In 2006 I resigned from my fulltime youth pastor position in a church in San Diego and stepped out in faith and began the process of casting a vision and began training on to how plant Austin Journey Church. We joined the ACTS29 church planting network (www.acts29network.org)and the EV Free denomination (www.efca.org) who have trained us and prayed over us to move to Austin in January of 2007 In November of 2006 a group ofpeople from a closing church called Bridgeway Community Church contacted us from Austin to tell us that they were interested in talking with me about our efforts to plant a new church and that they might be interested in helping us make this church plant a reality. We met in December and agreed to make this effort a reality. So on December 2006 Bridgeway Church stopped being a church and joined the effort to begin Austin Journey. We are now in the fist fazes as a new church, with all the bumps and things to work on.
We are currently gathering people, serving in the community, and having covenant groups as we develop the next stages of our Church to make an impact on our culture and the lives of people around us. AJC exists to equip people to love God, love others and serve the world around them by making disciples. We value the word of God and the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ to see his Kingdomof love, hope and grace touch as many people around us as possible.
With this desire, God is always bringing AJC opportunities to reach people, and impact them with the love of Jesus Christ. We are currently working on the next stages of opportunities that God has opened up for many people in our AJC community to reach thousands of lives in the N.W. Austin area.
