What to Expect
Is there a dress code?
NO! We want you to come as you are so you can come wearing shorts, jeans, suits & ties. We come to God with our lives not our style. Church is not a fashion show! However you feel comfortable, you will be welcomed.
What is the music like?
Our style of music is always evolving, but we choose to worship in a contemporary youthful sound.
We seek to worship God with the music of our soul. At Austin Journey music is a big deal because it calls our heart and mind to focus on God. It calls on both sides of the brain to be active, creative, emotional and more. If you are musician we are always looking for more diversity in our talent pool so please let us know if you are interested in joining our worship team.
What is the teaching like?
We teach from the Bible, since the Bible is the revealed word of God about himself to us. We tend to teach through books of the Bible primarily -- but occasionally we'll choose a selected passage that addresses a specific topic.
We value involvement and participation in our worship, our learning, and our fellowship. To facilitate increased participation, so during the teaching time of our service occasionally you will be asked to engage people around you in discussion, or take notes so that together we can grow both in our understanding what it mens to follow Jesus and in our fellowship with each other.
How will people treat me?
Our goal is that when you leave Austin Journey Church worship service is that you have been welcomed, treated with respect and accepted into an authentic group of people who are following God. We know it is unrealistic to think that you'll find your new best friend after just your first few visits. But as you become a part of our community you will find relationships that will be an important part of your walk with God and people who will begin to help you in all of life.
What is Communion?
Communion is a Christian ordnance that was established by Jesus Christ for his followers to remember who He is and His sacrifice for us on the cross for the removal of our sins and the free gift of eternal life that is offered to us in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
The Bread: Jesus taught that the bread is a symbol of his body that would be broken for our sins. He taught that if we break the bread and eat it we are participating in his sacrifice for us.
The Drink: The drink is a symbol of Jesus blood that was spilled to wash away our sins. The vividness of the symbol may offend modern sensitivities, but this is to show us how seriously God takes our sins, and how serious he was about getting rid of our sin and bringing us into his family. We drink the juice with the bread because we need this to help us reminder Jesus costly love for us. His blood was spilled to wash away our sins.
